We Had a Great Year!
One of the many benefits of moving to Cross Creek West is our dedicated lifestyle director, Alyssa Brewer. What does a lifestyle director do? She plans events and activities for our residents, giving them a chance to socialize, have fun and maybe even learn something new. Alyssa hosted more than 80 events this year — here’s a quick look at some of them.
January was a month for cleaning up and giving back. Residents decluttered closets, garages and junk drawers. To help, we provided onsite donation and paper shredding trucks. It was also the start of our monthly blood drives, where residents can donate blood to Gulf Coast Regional Center. They provide the blood; we provide the cookies.
Adults got a chance to get out and have some fun during our annual Casino Night. Games of chance were played by residents with a nod to the “Kings and Queens of Hearts” theme. We also hosted a barbecue with games and music to unofficially kick off the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
March was a month devoted to nature and comedy. Residents were able to learn more about the plants and animals that thrive in our community during the annual Nature & Wildlife Expo. Adults got another chance to get out for an evening of laughs at the “April Fools Eve Comedy Night.” Residents hopefully dropped lines and caught a few big ones during our fishing completion. Movie nights enticed families to hang out under the stars.
We did some spring cleaning for our community garage sale in April. Dads and daughters dressed up and danced the night away at the annual Father-Daughter Dance. Families hopped on over to the Welcome Center in sister community Cross Creek Ranch for some springtime fun.
We kicked off pool season with opening-day events where residents could splash to their hearts' content. We celebrated moms with a day of relaxation, including chair massages, mimosas and light bites at our Mother’s Day party. We celebrated all women during our National Women's Health Week party.
Numerous events helped us celebrate the summer months. In June, Camp Flewellen in Cross Creek Ranch officially opened. The 4-acre complex boasts a 3,300-square-foot clubhouse, a second fitness room, an event lawn, a firepit, playground and patio. Families had a “Wicked” time at the Hobby Center. We also took them out to the ball game to see the Space Cowboys at Constellation Field.
It was sun, fun and fireworks for our annual 4th of July celebration. The theme was"Surfin' USA!" which meant the water was cool and the surf was up.
We closed out swim season with a Summer Family Luau in August. Kudos to everyone for bringing out picnic blankets and hampers to help celebrate National Eat Outside Day. Hot dogs showed they had the right stuff during “Mutt Strutt.”
Girls just wanted to have fun in September. We helped them out by hosting a National Girls' Night at Camp Flewellen. We also celebrated National Coffee Day with free brews. Football fans gathered for a day at NRG Stadium to watch the Houston Texans take on the Indianapolis Colts. One of our biggest events was Family Health & Fitness Day where families were able to take steps toward developing a happier, healthier lifestyle.
We hosted another garage sale in October. New residents were able to socialize at a special mixer. Best of all, we put on our costumes and did the “Monster Mash” to celebrate Halloween.
Moving into the end of the year, we lit up the holidays during our annual tree lighting ceremony. Residents learned how to make holiday wreaths to adorn their front doors. They also learned how to play “Pie Bingo,” a delicious game that promised sweet victories. A shopping trip to The Nutcracker Market helped families cross items off their holiday gift lists. November was also the month to give back during our “Give Back, Build Hope” campaign where residents and visitors to the community are asked to donate items to four of our chosen charities.
We’ve been ringing in the holidays with a trip to Santa’s Wonderland, “Story Time and Cookie Decorating” for the kids and a "Wrap & Yap" event to help families get all their gifts wrapped. Adults giggled during a "Laughing Through the Snow" comedy show. If you haven’t had a chance, be sure to drive through our neighborhoods to see how residents have decked their halls for the “Holiday Lights” contest.
